Quick reviews…just ’cause

The Roots – Rising Down: Go get it.

Estelle – Shine: Why don’t you already have this?

Portishead – Third
: Still need to spin this one some more, but get it anyway. Maybe they’ll get their asses into the studio more. (If any member of Portishead happens to see this, I say this with love. And where the Hell is Keybored 299 03??)

Iron Man movie: Hadn’t seen it. Shut up! I usually wait until they get to DVD anyway.

Grand Theft Auto IV: It apparently is the shit. I’ve only cracked it open and started it before getting busy with other crap. Lemme lone. If I finish it before Soul Calibur IV, that’ll be saying something.

That’s all I can think of right now. If this wasn’t enough for you. Allow me to point you to a time passer.
It’s called Typeracer. Sounds self explanatory? It is. You’re a car, you’re in a race with other cars. First one to type their way to the finish line with the given lines of text, wins. Mistakes have to be dealt with before moving on. I personally, suck, but their seems to be some jokers who can type 160 words a second (that’s insane!). There is a leaderboard, if you some choose to participate. You can also practice, which let’s you know how bad you really are. It’s pretty fun…if you like typing games.

Later!

I *heart* XKCD + whatever else

Misc music

For one of the reasons why, click this link:

xkcd – A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language – By Randall Munroe

I could have embedded it here, but click through, there is more funny than that.

I was just laughing at the wife for going ga ga for the Nintendo Wii being shown on Rachael Ray. Funnier still since I told her about it a while ago and that she had a chance to try one when my cousin brought his home for Christmas. Won’t be getting it (still can’t find it anyway around here). Not saying never though. *SMH*

This could be remnants from the Strawberry Milk high I was on this morning, but…

From the I don’t know why Dept., here is a list of my 5 favorite songs to wake up to (No particular order):

Somersault (DJ Dangermouse Remix) – Zero 7 Feat. MF Doom
Hummin’ (live) – Cannonball Adderley Quartet
Journey In Satchidananda – Alice Coltrane
Definition (and/or RE: DEFiniton) – Black Star
Down Here On The Ground – Grant Green

Honorable Mentions:
Keep Trying – Groove Theory
Verbal Murder 2 – Pete Rock W/ Big Punisher, Noreaga, and Common
Da Supafriendz – Vast Aire Feat.MF Doom

Still need a reason? Because you didn’t ask but you were wondering. Good enough? 🙂
Need another? What I was originally going to post isn’t working out. What makes it so bad is that I write on the fly. Ida Know

You might THINK that’s the real reason, but it might be.

Peace

What’s up, all, some, or one!

Just throwing this one out here just because. Don’t really do the odds and ends posts, because they would end up that way to me. At any case, I hope to have a couple of hopefully interesting posts coming in the next day or so (but you know me). That’s provided my family don’t run me ragged with requests. I need to start charging them, what’s a good rate? 🙂 Don’t really have much in the way of thoughtful either. There are some blogs on the left of this post that can handle that way better than I can. But that’s for another time. There is a ‘Where are they now’ I’ve been thinking about. It may be a little different from the others. There will be an update coming on the missus’ missives soon, too. It’s funny to me, but, later man. Got a new cellphone last week, so if you see some stuff appear and disappear here, that could be part of the reason. I’d like to try out some things.

So anywhoo, just passing a note on the way to checking out my blog fam (see left sidebar again). Come back through later on.

I leave you with a concert from a pretty cool site that I may or may not have mentioned before called Fabchannel.com. This site basically house hundreds upon hundreds(exact count, Ida know) concerts from music artists far and wide. The concerts are, of course, streamed and you can embed the video into your own site, if you so choose. I’ve gone there ever now and the to check out who’s on there that I would care to see. A lot of the concerts are old and there aren’t a lot of “popular” artists which make it even better, personally. There a lot of artists or groups that you may not have even heard of before doing concerts you may not have ever seen before. See how that works? From time to time, I’ll plant one right here for your perusal. So without Freddie Adu, here is a concert from ’07 from Soul artist Eric Roberson from the Paradiso Main Hall. Not sure where it was, but it’s not the US. it won’t matter.

Peace.

P.S. I wonder if there is someone’s Google alert I can set off?

I said Later, MAN!

Attention all shoppers, Pt 2 – Geek bearing gift guides

Holiday Misc music tech

Twas the week five days before Christmas
and all through the town.
People are scrambling for gifts,
and knocking others down.

Ok, so that wasn’t my best rendition, but you get the point. It’s crunch time, and i’m here to help. If you’ve gotten your shopping done, Hoorah! If not, join the club. Anyway, when I first started blogging last year, I put out a similar post on the different Holiday gift guides on the web, so this could be an annual event. And since I know time’s precious (and I have to go to work in a few), let’s get it going.

First up: For the tech inclined (like me)

CNET does a gift guide every year. It’s broken down all nice and neat into categories. There’s even video and podcasts to go all with it. Some of he videos were from their recent Holiday Helpdesk that was streamed a couple of weeks back. Should have told you about it then.

Holiday Gift Guide 2006 – CNET.com

EngadgetEngadget’s Holiday Gift Guide! – Engadget

I love this site, in general. If you are a gadget lover, this is the place for news. Their guide is broken down by person (Mom, Dad, Him, Her, etc). Nicely done.

DL.TV – Episode 114: Our first annual Holiday Shopping Guide! – DL.TV

DL.TV is a web video show hosted by two former Tech TV hosts. Great show in general. Good stuff.

Also check the Gadgettes podcast, They drop names of gadgets like it’s going out of style. They even did a non denominational holiday gift podcast.

For the gamers in the house (like me)

1up.com2006 Videogame Gift Guide from 1UP.com

Great gaming site (of which I have a blog page on). Their guide is broken down by platform (PS2, Xbox, etc).

Gamespot.comGameSpot Holiday Gift Guide – Gifts for Gamers

Another great site. Part of the CNET Networks (redundant I know). Their guide is also broken up by platform.

For the sexually inclined (yea me too)

SFGate.com (the online side of the San Fransisco Chronicle – Sexy Holiday Shopping Guide

Admittedly, I didn’t spend much time on this one as I should have.

Author, columnist, geek, machinist, (audio, video, and text) blogger Violet Blue has some suggestions on what to put under the tree… or anywhere else you want to stick something. Hopefully, I hope to add more to this section later.

*UPDATE*

I found this link from a couple of weeks back. It has links to other sex themed holiday guides (useful year round). check out: Viviane’s Sex Carnival: Gift guides roundup.

For the music lovers (note the theme here people) –
Admitted, this is another section I didn’t spend much time but still are worth checking out.

MP3.com – MP3.com Holiday Gift Guide – CDs, Music Downloads, and Accessories
Also a part of the CNET family. good site laid out by genre and has a section for MP3 playing hardware (probably Ipods, but I could be wrong).

Allmusic.com – allmusic ((( 2006 Holiday Buying Guide )))

Music site where I link to quite often when I do music related posts (which I’m past due on). Guide done by genre, of course. I think MP3.com borrowed reviews and such from Allmusic.com. A lot of places do.

For the TV lovers
(not so much me)

TV.com – TV.com Holiday Gift Guide – DVDs, Sountracks and Electronics

If it’s not painfully obvious what this site is about, then allow me to redirect you to another site. Anyway, it’s another CNET property. Usually hit them up for show recaps and whatnot.

And (for now), there you have it. I may stick in one or two others should I come across anything in the next day or two. Hopefully, this will give you some ideas to go off from. If not, you are on your own.

Happy Holidays!

Attention all shoppers….

Misc music web

The holiday season is upon us and you know what that means….

Ok, yea, you’ll wish you hadn’t had that last mound of stuffing, but besides that it’s one week away from the busiest shopping day of the year. The time of year stores LOVE because they will be giving thanks to you for giving them all of your money for the sake of Christmas. You know, when you CLAIM to be Christmas shopping for the family when you are really just getting stuff for yourself (selfish ass). For those of you crazy enough to want to go out and shop during that day, I know you will want a leg up on all of the sales going on for Black Friday. Wait a minute, who came UP with that stupid name anyway and why is it BLACK Friday……..oh!!

Anyway, how will you get a heads up on the sales when the paper with those sales won’t come out until Thanksgiving (sometimes they start advertising the Sunday before)? You are in luck, there are a couple of site that will help you in this time of greed need.

They are:

BlackFriday.info

and Fat Wallet.com

Now Blackfriday.info covers just that day. It usually has all of the sales that are going to be had on Black Friday at least a week in advance. Which is why i’m telling you about it now. Usually when a store puts it out, they post it. Well, Except this year for Best Buy, who made them take theirs down this year. I don’t know how long they have been doing this, but I found out about them a couple of years ago.

Fat Wallet, I believe, works all year round. They have been around for a while and they pretty much sniff out all of the deals and coupons around the web from places and posts them up on their site. I haven’t used it much, but I have heard of it. It might ask you to sign up, but it appears that you don’t have to in order to take advantage of what is posted.

And there you go. consume until your hearts content. Oh, I want to give up a bonus site that also works all year. It’s called Woot.com. Their thing is: “One day one deal”. Every day they have a new or refurbished item, mostly of a tech related nature, on sale. Once the day is over, the deal is over. Sometimes (like right now when i’m writing this), the will have what is called a Woot-off! That is a day or two when they put something up on the site until it sells out and then put up another item. As I said, that goes on for a day of two and sometimes there is some good stuff that comes up. They even have a nice little funny podcast to go along with the item. The write ups on the items are amusing, too.

Anyway, go check that stuff out if you are so inclined. I just want my 10% commission of front. Leave it at the door on your way out. And no plug nickels either, ya cheapskates!

Peace

Opening Pandora’s box or something like that.

Misc music web

We interrupt the previously scheduled rant for something a little more or less productive.

For those of you Pandora users, you might want to check this link out.

jkOnTheRun: As if we needed more to like about it: 15 Pandora tweaks

Now, i’ve talked about Pandora enough in the past and I probably won’t stop talking about it any time soon.  This post, outside of having some other good links, clicks through to this post on the Lifehacker site:

Technophilia: 15 ways to get more out of Pandora – Lifehacker

As the title says, there are some useful tips for handing Pandora. Some of them I have heard of and/or used before. An issue in one of these tips, I hadn’t encountered. The only one I didn’t see is the one on how to rewind a track and I know there was a way out there. I’m not so much concerned with saving tracks (which is mentioned in one or two or the tips), but it is handy, I guess. At any rate, if you use Pandora, check it out. If you are curious about it, check out my stations to the left of this post.

And now back to the previously scheduled rant or whatnot.

New Neo Soul Cafe season

Misc music web

A new “season” of the Neo Soul Cafe video show has started. First up: Van Hunt. If you don’t know who that is exactly (like me), go the the site and click on The Lounge. Then click Podcasts, then video, and finally click on the link for the show. Now was that so hard? Interview + good music videos =  Winner! You can also get any of the other shows you may have missed. It is video so hopefully you have a fast connection. Oh, you can subscribe to the show (with your favorite podcatching client like Itunes or whatnot) and grab it that way.
